Izabella Pruska-Oldenhof

For Izabella Pruska-Oldenhof’s photogram film Song of the Firefly (2002), the artist collected plants from Toronto’s Don Valley and then spent hours crouching on her darkened bathroom floor, exposing the vegetation directly onto 35mm color print stock using a flashlight, creating fleeting bursts of light that resemble the mating-ritual incandescence of the title’s insects.
